Cool hand Luke is not my favourate movie, but its a pretty cool watch. Realistically the above quote is pretty much my favourate part of the movie. This film starring Paul Newman gained rave reviews and was a box office smash, and established Newman as a leading actor of the generation.
Basically the plot revolves around Vietnam vet Luke Jackson who is incarcerated for stealing change from and destroying parking meters. Luke keeps his head up in jail refusing to be anyone’s ‘bitch’ so to speak. whilst life in jail is hard, Luke makes the most of his time until he gets word that his sick mother has died. The wardens on hearing this keep him locked up in case of any attempted escape to be at the funeral. Luke eventually does find a way to escape but is recaptured soon afterwards. Back in prison he is subject to treatment even more horrible than what he escaped previously. Of course Luke seeks to escape again. Is he able to taste freedom again? I won’t go any further than that for fear of ruining the plot for you guys so you’ll just have to check it out yourself.
Overall Newman is an incredible actor and the movie is well written. I’d recommend checking this out. It’s definitely a movie that’s worth watching once in life. Make sure you stick it out to the end … we don’t want a “failure to communicate”
